Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Mission
Kindred Healthcare’s mission is to promote healing, provide hope, preserve dignity, and produce value for each patient, family member, customer, and team member we serve.
Definition and Inclusion Principle
At Kindred Healthcare, diversity encompasses all of the ways that human beings are both different and similar, and inclusion is leveraging that diversity to create a fair, equitable, healthy, and high-performing organization. As an organization, we are committed to pursuing our mission to promote healing, provide hope, preserve dignity and produce value with an inclusive workforce in which diversity is leveraged, respected, and reflective of the patients, family members, customers, and team members we serve. Our goal is to maximize the potential of all team members to drive Kindred’s strategy and enhance our brand
Our Corporate Efforts
The Kindred Inclusion Council is committed to realizing our goal of promoting an inclusive environment that actively values diversity among all our team members, patients and families, and the broader community. The Council’s purpose is to advise and propose to the Executive Committee of Kindred Healthcare how to implement inclusion strategy initiatives based on the goals of the organization. The Council will be responsible for ensuring that day-to-day inclusion-related work is planned, prioritized and implemented across the Kindred system for patients, team members, suppliers and the community as outlined in the Inclusion Strategy. Council members will be expected to communicate to their organizational units on the progress and results made on inclusion initiatives.
Our Kindred La Mirada Pharmacy Efforts
At the Kindred La Mirada Triad Pharmacy Department, our Residency Advisory Committee (RAC) discusses our recruitment strategies on a yearly basis to ensure our reach to pharmacy students of diverse backgrounds. Our Southern Californian patient population comprises many people of different creeds and nationalities, so we strive to have a staff reflective of this population, who can provide the empathy and resources needed to improve pharmacy-provided patient care. We routinely attend both CSHP Seminar and ASHP Midyear to guarantee we are recruiting students who represent our local patient population, and to make sure we meet with students who come from different institutions and geographic regions in the United States. We have additionally changed our residency interviews to virtual format, allowing students with limited means to speak with us without expending additional resources. Our applicant selection and ranking process also includes a rubric that utilizes an objective scoring system, which eliminates bias. Lastly, we require our preceptors/RAC members to undergo yearly inclusion & diversity education.
